Jack Bennett is currently the Analytical Services & Instrumentation (AS&I) Manager at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Livermore CA. He manages six groups with eight laboratories testing for toxic heavy metals (including beryllium), volatile organic chemicals, radionuclides (in human and environmental\industrial hygiene matrices), occupational radiation exposure and also responsible for calibration of field instrumentation. Prior to that, he was the Group Leader for the Analytical Laboratory, which performed testing for toxic heavy metals and volatile organic chemicals.
Prior to coming to LLNL he was the Division Director of the Environmental Chemistry Division at the Katherine A. Kelley State Public Health Laboratory in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. His responsibilities included management of the organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and radiation chemistry laboratories. He was also responsible for several areas of the laboratory's emergency response activities. He was Principal Investigator on the EPA Radioanalytical Capacity Enhancement grant.
Additionally, Mr. Bennett had been employed by Severn Trent Laboratories in Shelton, Connecticut. He was manager of the semivolatiles department and, before that, he managed the extractions department.
Mr. Bennett also has a broad bench level experience with both inorganic and organic chemistry from working at other environmental laboratories. He received a B.S. in biology (with a minor in chemistry) from Southern Connecticut State University in 1978.
He was chairman of the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) Environmental Laboratory Sciences Committee and continues serving on that committee.
