Mr. Gregory (Greg) Nichols has 25 years of experience supporting administration, operations, and research in healthcare, occupational and environmental health, and homeland defense and security. He currently serves as the Health Studies Operations Manager for the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), a US Department of Energy (DOE) facility managed by ORAU and located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA. In addition to managing daily operations of the Health Studies Program, Nichols is also the program manager for DOE’s Beryllium Associated Work Registry, a federally mandated reporting program in operation since 2002.
Greg is primarily known for his work in evaluating risks and applications of emerging technologies (especially nanotechnology) in public health, homeland security, and defense, and he has published and presented extensively on this topic. He has been involved in numerous risk assessment and evaluation activities regarding occupational and environmental exposures and processes in support of DoD entities, DOE, National Nuclear Security Administration facilities, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Tennessee Valley Authority, and several private companies. He is often sought out as an expert in communicating emerging and reemerging Public Health risks, especially for engineered nanomaterials and coal fly ash. Nichols holds a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and a Master of Public Health degree in Health Planning and Administration, both from the University of Tennessee. He also holds the Certified in Public Health (CPH) credential, is a Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), and is an Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
