Education and Work History
Mr. Griffin has earned Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry from Carroll College, Waukesha, WI and a Master of Science (MS) in Environmental Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL.
Mr. Griffin was employed from 1980 to 1987 at Honeywell, Inc. in Des Plaines, IL as an analytical chemist/group leader specializing in engineered material analysis. From 1987 to 2020, he was employed at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL. He held positions of Lab Supervisor of Plant Facilities and Services Division environmental laboratory from 1987 to 1991, QA Coordinator of Environment, Safety, and Health Division (ESH) radiological, environmental, and industrial hygiene laboratories from 1991 to 2008. From 2008 to 2020, he was the Group Leader of the environmental/industrial hygiene laboratory in the Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ESHQ) Directorate. Mr. Griffin retired from Argonne in 2020. He has formed a consulting firm and offers client services in the ISO/IEC 17025, 14001, and 9001 areas.
Assessment Related History
Mr. Griffin has completed ISO/IEC 17025 Lead Assessor training from ANAB, AIHA LAP, A2LA and ISO/IEC 14001 Lead Assessor training from QAI. Mr. Griffin has been performing contractor laboratory audits for the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) as an Auditor with the DOE Consolidated Audit Program (DOECAP) from 2012-2017 and American Industrial Hygiene Association Laboratory Accreditation Program (AIHA LAP) Site Assessments (IHLAP, ELLAP and Unique Scopes) since 2014. He currently serves as Chief Site Assessor for the AIHA LAP.
Professional Activities
Mr. Griffin has held a professional engineer license in the State of Illinois since 1997. He is a Member-at-Large (Advisor to the Meetings/Symposium S/C Chair) for the Beryllium Health & Safety Committee (BHSC). He is a contributor to “A Practitioner’s Guide to Beryllium Hazard Management (2019, available on Amazon)” & “AIHA Sampling Collection Quality Manual” (presently in pre-publication). He is a senior member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
